Political Ally of Eddie Perez to Face Charges

Hartford's "Parking-gate" is not over just yet. Former State Rep.  and North End political insider Abraham Giles has been ordered to stand trial on charges related to the corruption scandal involving former Hartford Mayor Eddie Perez.

A Superior Court judge denied Giles' application for accelerated rehabilitation Tuesday. If the judge had accepted the application, it would have wiped Giles' criminal record clean after a period of probation.

Giles, 84,  is charged with conspiracy and larceny. Prosecutors say he and Perez tried to extort money from a developer who wanted access to a city parking lot run by Giles.

Perez was convicted of five corruption-related counts in June and will be sentenced in September. Giles is scheduled to return to Superior Court in October.
