Popular Shelton Diner Gutted By Fire

The family owned restaurant has been in business since 1982

A popular family diner in Shelton was destroyed by fire late Thursday night.

Fire ripped through the Sassafras Diner in Huntington Plaza just after 11 p.m.., according to Shelton Fire officials, but did not spread to any neighboring shops.

It took Shelton fire crews about an hour to put out the blaze.

One firefighter suffered an ankle injury but will be OK, fire officials said.

No one was inside the diner when the fire broke out.

The family-owned restaurant has been in business since 1982.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
