Judge Sends Accused Prep School Dean for STD Testing

The former dean of an exclusive Litchfield County boarding school will be tested for sexually transmitted diseases at a judge’s demand after allegations surfaced that he abused boys there.

Former Dean of Students Robert Reinhardt, 44, was fired from The Gunnery, in Washington, Conn., in June. The families of two students have sued Reinhardt, among others. One family said Reinhardt made "repeated" abuses by during the 2007-08 school year, in the case.

The suit claims Reinhardt was able to "engage in pedophilia" with the boy and other minors because he was allowed to invite boys to spend the night in his apartment on campus.

Reinhardt was a chemistry teacher, chairman of his department, dean of residential life, dean of students, the crew coach and a house parent at the school, according to court documents.

Reinhardt was in court on Tuesday and did not enter a plea to charges of second-degree sexual assault, risk of injury to a minor and fourth-degree sexual assault.

He has been banned from having unsupervised contact with anyone under the age of 18 while his case is pending.

Reinhardt’s attorney said he is denying all charges. His case in Litchfield Superior Court has been continued to Oct. 16. The warrant for his arrest remains sealed.
