The head of Connecticut's Department of Motor Vehicles says progress is being made to tackle a customer backlog and long lines after a major computer upgrade was completed several weeks ago.
Commissioner Andres Ayala Jr. warned Friday that people might experience lengthy waits Tuesday after the Labor Day holiday weekend. DMV workers at branch offices don't work Mondays, so they worked a half-day Friday and won't be working Saturday to have time off for the holiday.
Ayala said DMV workers usually face longer lines after holidays.
He said people are still visiting branches despite more registration-related services that are available online.
Most services at DMV branches were shut in August for a week as the agency upgraded its system.
