Rain Finally Arrives

It's been several weeks since a significant amount of rain fell.

After a long stretch of dry weather, there is finally some rain relief in Connecticut.  A storm finally arrives, bringing much anticipated rain.

"We need the rain, it's been too dry so I'm glad to have the rain," said Laurie Potvin from Enfield.

Several weeks have passed since a significant amount of rain fell, but while we need the rain, it did cause many to change their plans Sunday.

Stands were empty at Southington Memorial Park since Sunday's game rained out. Earth day events dampened across the state.

The wet weather has been driving people indoors after a very long dry spell.

The first heavy rainfall of the year has forced folks to dig out their forgotten raincoats and umbrellas, but for some, this rain comes as a blessing.

John Rogers, owner of Roger's Orchards in Southington, said he's been concerned about the nearly 5 thousand new trees on his land. This rain means they'll have a good chance of thriving.

"Every stormed seemed to have missed us in the last two months, it's been a very dry spring," said Rogers.

Meantime movie theaters and shopping plazas are packed with long lines of people, taking shelter and looking for something fun to do on this rainy Sunday.

NBC Connecticut Meteorologist Ryan Hanrahan said, the rain becomes heavy and wind-driven this evening.

A flood watch is in effect through Monday morning, said Hanrahan.
