Rally Planned for Outgoing New Haven Chiefs

Police Chief Dean Esserman is removing assistants to build his team.

A rally will be held on Monday for three assistant New Haven police chiefs who have been removed since a new chief took over.

The rally will be held at noon at police headquarters in New Haven.

The New Haven Independent reports that Police Chief Dean Esserman has asked Assistant Police Chief Petsia Adger and two more assistant chiefs to step down so he can pick his own team.

"“I am moving the department in a new direction and have taken these past two months to assess the organization. I have not brought in anyone from New York or Providence nor will I. Over the last several weeks I have met with the assitant chiefs to let them know that I like to put my own team together and that I will honor and respect their service to the city of New Haven in developing a time frame for that transition,” Esserman said in a statement.

Adger, who has been with the department for more than 20 years, told the Independent on Sunday that said she knew nothing about the rally and did not have a comment about her situation.
