A political donkey PEZ dispenser considered to be one of the rarest in the world is on display in Orange this month.
According to PEZ, the dispenser is one of only two political donkey dispensers known to exist.
A man in New York found it in July when he helped clean out items in his grandfather’s house.
The vice president of PEZ gave the dispenser to the grandfather in the early 1960s, according to PEZ.
A news release on display says a special case with three dispensers, including the Democratic donkey head dispenser, was presented to President John F. Kennedy during his visit to Vienna Austria in 1961.
The Atlantic ran a story over the summer stating that the Secret Service gave orders for the White House to return the case and candy set to PEZ.
According to the news release on the Atlantic Web site, the other two PEZ dispensers were a golden dispenser for Jackie Kennedy and a Bozo dispenser for Caroline.
The other political donkey dispenser was found in the mid-2000s in a storage box in the PEZ offices in Linz Austria and it is currently on display in their corporate offices in Europe.
The PEZ headquarters in Orange will have the New York man’s dispenser on display at the visitor center through the month of September.
It will then be put up for auction, according to PEZ, and is expected to sell for $12,000 to $15,000.
The PEZ Visitor Center is located at 35 Prindle Hill Road in Orange.
It is open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
