East Haven police have arrested a 50-year-old registered sex offender accused of sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor.
Police started investigating Charles Gattert in April..
After what police called a lengthy search, officers found Gattert in Prospect and later transported him to East Haven Police headquarters, where he was arrested on a warrant at 11:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
Gattert was convicted of sexual assault in the first degree in 1989 and he is registered in Connecticut as a sex offender.
However, he was non-compliant with the address registration requirements of the Sex Offender Registry when Gattert was arrested on Tuesday, according to police.
This is not the first time charges were filed against Gattert for improper registration.
He was charged with failure to register as a sex offender in March 2007, April 2008 and March 2012, according to court records.
Gattert was held on a $250,000.00 bond set by court and is being arraigned in New Haven Superior Court on Wednesday.
