Accused Kitty Kicker Gets Sentenced to the Shelter

A man who is accused of kicking a kitty across his kitchen over some lapped up milk and beating it with a broomstick won’t go to jail and will instead be surrounded by four-legged abandoned animals.

Lavaughne Scales, 34, was granted accelerated rehabilitation Wednesday on charges of cruelty to animals stemming from an incident that would make animal lovers squirm.

In October, Scales caught a 4-month-old kitten on the kitchen table drinking from a cereal bowl, police said.

So he kicked the kitty across the room, then grabbed a broomstick and used it to beat the animal, police said.

The kitten was treated for a collapsed lung and broken legs among other injuries.

As a condition of the probation the judge has ordered Scales to volunteer at an animal shelter, where he will be surrounded by cats, dogs, iguanas or whatever animals are staying at the local animal shelter. If he successfully completes probation, the charge will be wiped from his record.
