Resident Catches Burglar Jumping from Window

Resident grabs burglar by the feet as he jumps out window.

A New Haven resident came home from aerobics class on Monday morning to find a burglar in his bathroom, and almost captured the man as he jumped out a window.

The resident told police he arrived home on Cottage Street just after 10:30 a.m. and found some of his belongings dumped on top of his bed, police said.

When the man looked into the master bathroom, he saw a man rummaging through his things.

That apparently startled the burglar, who panicked and dove, head first, through the bathroom window, police said.

But the man did not get too far, at first.

The resident grabbed the man's feet and held on as long as he could, but eventually let go.

The burglar fell from the second story, landed on his head and dropped several watches and jewelry on the ground below the bathroom window in the process, police said.

The burglar got away, police said.

Officers are looking for a thin man, about 5 feet, 8 inches tall in a gray hooded sweatshirt beneath a blue jacket and black boots. They have notified area hospitals to be on the lookout for a patient with related injuries.
