Road Salt Arrives in Midst of Summer

We’re still enjoying the heat of summer, but road salt that will treat the highways and streets across Connecticut this winter is coming into New London.

Crews are unloading about 38,000 metric tons of salt at state pier in New London, according to DRVN Enterprises Inc. The salt stock came all the way from Egypt and will be sold to various towns throughout the state.

There are mixed opinions on the winter preparations.

“It’s crazy. I mean it’s still so hot outside and they’re already getting ready for winter? I just hope summer stays around for a while,” Ava Pitruzzello, of East Lyme, said.

"They're already putting Christmas stuff out in the store shelves, so yeah, I think having the salt ready would be a good idea," Vickie Orzel, of Kansas, said.
