Roads Closed After Poles Struck in Ellington, Salem, Durham

Icy conditions have made for dangerous roads, and state police are reporting road closures in Durham, Salem and Ellington after cars struck utility poles.

Route 68 is closed at Dunn Hill Road in Durham after a pole was hit. No one was injured and CL&P is en route to make repairs, police said.

Route 85 is closed at Witch Meadow Road in Salem due to a similar accident. No one was injured. AT&T is working on the pole. It's not clear how long it will take to fix, state police said.

Route 286 is closed at Old Farms Road after a car struck a pole. Five people were in the car but no one was hurt, police said. CL&P is on scene making repairs. The road will remain closed for five or six hours, according to police.

State police are warning drivers to take precautions and be wary of black ice.
