Coventry police said emergency crews responded to the crash on Route 6 near South Street around 3:30 p.m. Police said the driver of the Taurus, a 29-year-old East Granby man, had to be extricated and was airlifted to Hartford Hospital by LifeStar. That person remains in critical condition.

A 6-year-old child in the car was taken by ambulance to Connecticut Children's Medical Center and is reported to be in stable condition.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, a 60-year-old Ohio man, was not hurt and is cooperating with police.

Route 6 was closed for hours while members of the METRO Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team investigated the crash.
