Stormy Shopping

Forecast doesn't darken retailers' weekend

Three snowstorms between now and Christmas are threatening to shorten shopping time in the week left to buy gifts and goodies before the holiday.

"I think people when they hear about bad weather try to get out and get a lot of things done while the weather is good," said Diane Gervais, owner of Amato Toy and Hobby in Middletown.

She wonders how much shopping people will actually do if they have to dig out Saturday morning and prepare for another storm Sunday.

But there's one merchant in Middletown who doesn't worry about the weather at all.

"Usually men come out," said Tina Lun of Tina's Lingerie.  "Doesn't matter if it snows or rains or storms.  So we might be okay, I think."

The Sunday forecast won't stop retailers from opening Sundays, even if they're not usually open.

"We're gonna be here," said Dave Bruno of Midtown Photo. "We're usually not open Sundays but it is Christmas time and people need to get out and take that time to get something."
