Suspect Berlin Standoff Turned Over to Parole Agents

A Waterbury man is in custody of parole agents and a Wallingford woman is hospitalized after a standoff at a Berlin hotel overnight.

Berlin police received a call reporting a domestic dispute between guests of a hotel on the Berlin Turnpike around 9 p.m. on Thursday.

After several minutes, police convinced Isaiah Boucher, 31, to release Anjelina Melillo, 21, of Wallingford, police said.

She had been stabbed and police called an ambulance to rush her to Hartford Hospital, where she is in serious condition as of Friday morning.

Boucher remained inside the hotel, with multiple knives and a stun gun, police said. New Britain's SWAT and negotiation team began negotiations, but he would not come out of his room, police said.

Hotel guests were moved to another location and police spent almost five hours on the phone with Boucher and his family members to try to get him to come out of the room on his own.

Ultimately, police used tear gas to get Boucher to come out.

"We tried every avenue possible to get the gentleman to surrender. He would not surrender and finally we had to force the door and use tear gas," Chief Paul Fitzgerald, of Berlin Police, said.

Boucher is currently on parole until 2013, according to the state Department of Correction Web site.

He was turned over to the parole agents and will also be charged in connection with the standoff in Berlin, police said. Charges could include attempted murder.
