Sandy Hook Educators Honored

The six educators killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School in a shooting massacrew nearly two years ago were honored Tuesday night with a special plaque from the American Federation of Teachers.

The six names are permanently etched into the minds of the Newtown community and beyond and they are now etched into something very permanent.

"I was just extraordinarily humbled by the graciousness of the president of the American Federation of Teachers," said Dr Joseph Erardi, Newtown's superintendent of schools.

The AFT presented this collage to the Newtown Board of Education

"Memorials can be a lot of things," said Randi Weingarten, AFT's President. "This one is both about honoring and moving forward."

The memorial had been unveiled as part of a larger tribute to fallen educators at the Hall of Fame of Teachers in Emporia, Kansas

"That's in Kansas, it's not in Connecticut," Weingarten said.
Long term Dr. Erardi says he doesn't know where the memorial will be placed but he says that decision will be left to the educators

"Six outstanding folks lost their lives in a horrific tragedy and although they are gone they will never be forgotten," Dr Erardi added.
