Driver Suffers Life-Threatening Injuries in Wallingford Bus Crash

A 76-year-old North Branford man suffered a life-threatening head injury when his pickup slid on ice and hit a school bus on Harrison Road in Wallingford.

The crash happened at 7:46 a.m. on Wednesday just east of the Interstate 91 overpass.

Police said John Baldino lost control of his 1997 Nissan pickup when he hit black ice on the bridge, hit a pole, crossed the street and hit the school bus head-on.

Thirteen students were on the bus, which was headed to Holy Trinity School, a Catholic school for children in kindergarten through eighth grade.

Two students sustained minor injuries and were to be evaluated by the school nurse.

All the children who were on the bus involved in the crash were put on another bus and transported to school.

Baldino is in intensive care, according to police.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call Officer Christian Evans at 203-294-2819.
