A packed house in Hamden Tuesday night fought to keep a magnet school open.
Administrators, teachers, and parents fear budget cuts could mean closure for Wintergreen Magnet School, forcing 600 students out of their classrooms.
Parents argued the 11-year-old school should stay open. They said Wintergreen is on of the state's most successful schools.
As it tries to balance its budget, the state is considering reductions across the board. Funding reductions could mean $3.5 million in cuts for Hamden Public Schools.
Hamden school superintendent Fran Rabinowitz says the budget crunch has left her in a tough spot. She said she hopes supporters of Wintergreen can convince state legislators to approve changes in the budget. Those changes could make the magnet school eligible for more funding.
Another Hamden Board of Education meeting will take place before the fate of Wintergreen Interdistrict Magnet School is decided.
