Search Continues for Waterbury Woman's Killer

Police continue to search for clues in the slaying of an 85-year-old woman who was found stabbed to death in her Waterbury apartment Saturday afternoon.

A friend who was concerned about Laura Orso’s well-being went her home and found the woman’s body about 2 p.m. She might have been killed Thursday night, investigators said.

Since Orso’s body was discovered, investigators have been combing the crime scene for evidence. About 40 recruits from the police academy looked in dumpsters and searched the area around the apartment for anything the suspect might have dropped as he fled.

Those who knew her said Orso was a loving and generous woman who lived a simple life and was devoted to family and friends. She had no children but had many nieces and nephews.

There was no sign of forced entry and relatives said there is no way Orso would have opened her door for a stranger. Authorities are following up on several leads.

A wake for Orso will be held Friday at the Maiorano Funeral Home. Calling hours are from 4-7 p.m. The funeral Mass will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
