Man Arrested After Crash on Hartford-West Hartford Line

A 20-year-old man was arrested in West Hartford early Friday morning after several people ran from a stolen Jeep after crashing it, according to police.

West Hartford police responded to the area of Whitman Avenue and Grennan Road just before 5 a.m. to investigate a report of people trying to enter a vehicle and several people quickly fled in a Jeep, police said.

An officer posted at Fern Street and Prospect Avenue swathe Jeep and deployed a tire deflation device, but the driver of the Jeep went around it and crashed into a parked car at Fern Street and North Beacon Street, according to police.

Several people ran from the car and the driver, 20-year-old Andre Gaston, was taken into custody, police said.

The Jeep had been reported stolen from Simsbury.

Police have not located the other people who were in the vehicle.

Gaston was charged with third-degree larceny, engaging police in a pursuit, three counts of first-degree reckless endangerment and other charges.

Bond was set at $50,000.
