It’s been 17 days since the explosion at the Kleen Energy Plant in Middletown and investigators are still trying to pinpoint the cause of the blast.
On Wednesday the Middletown Police Department, in conjunction with the Connecticut State Fire Marshal’s office, obtained an additional search warrant for the plant site.
The reason for the search warrant is so investigators can seize and analyze evidence located during the original search warrant, which expired at midnight on Tuesday. Middletown police say it's unknown when work at the site will be completed.
The blast on Feb. 7 killed six men who were working for O & G Industries Inc. when a natural gas line was purged. The explosion also injured 20.

As the search warrant is extended, the legal fallout begins. On Monday, two electricians who were hurt in the blast filed a lawsuit claiming Kleen Energy Systems and its contractors were negligent by purging the natural gas lines with several ignition sources nearby.
“What our investigation has shown to date is that this was a disaster that was waiting to happen,” said Paul Edwards who represents Timothy Hilliker and Harold Thoma.
Company officials have declined to comment on the lawsuit.
