More Support Coming for Baby Born without Eyes

Little Ava Jean Perillo is capturing hearts all over Connecticut and tonight, a second fundraiser is being held for the Watertown baby who was born without eyes.

Ave was born with anophthalmia, a rare congenital disease where the eyes don’t develop. Doctors noticed it when she was born.

So far, her doctor's visits have been covered by insurance, but future surgeries may not be, and they can cost up to $70,000. The family has already had one fundraiser to help raise money for Ava when she can have surgery at age 10.

Now, a second benefit has been arranged. It is a wine and champagne tasting and will take place on Thursday, from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Country Loft Antiques in Woodbury. here will also be food and music. Tickets are being sold through the store. T

"She’s always going, always wanting to do something, always playing," Kimberly Osborne said over the summer. "Best case scenario, (I) hope that by the time she’s 10, technology has advanced to where they can do some sort of bionic eye so that she can see light and shapes. That would be the best case scenario, but realistically, I know she’ll get a prosthetic eye."
