Senior Housing Complex Loses Power

No juice means no air conditioning for dozens of elderly in this extreme heat.

Dozens of senior citizens were moved from a Seymour housing complex after the building lost power Friday morning.

With temperatures approaching 100 degrees, the situation could have become dangerous for residents of the Callahan House at 32 Smith Street.

The power went out around 7 a.m., according to Connecticut Light & Power spokesperson Mitch Gross.

The Callahan House is part of the Seymour Housing Authority. Most of the residents in the 80-unit facility are elderly or disabled, according to the Valley Independent.

All of the residents were moved to a facility next door. No heat-related illnesses were reported.

Connecticut Light & Power crews were installing temporary generators in The Callahan house, according to Gross. The outage was caused by a transformer problem, he said.
