Sentencing Delayed for Man Accused of Driving With Dead Girlfriend

Maurice Francis, 31, is accused of stabbing Tashima Reddick, 29, to death in November 2008.

A Hartford man accused of killing his girlfriend and driving around with her body in the front passenger seat of his Volvo will be sentenced next month.

Maurice Francis, 31, is accused of stabbing Tashima Reddick, 29, to death in November 2008.

On Nov. 1, 2008, he called police and said he had found her body, the Hartford Courant reports.

Witnesses told police they saw a man dragging a body across a street and placing it in a car, which was later left at an auto body shop with a body inside.

The prosecution and defense are scheduled to start picking jurors on Monday in Hartford Superior Court.

Francis' lawyer, public defender William O'Connor, said his client denies the allegations. Francis had been ruled not competent to stand trial, but was later deemed competent after mental health treatment.

Sentencing was postponed to May 24.
