Sept. 11 Survivor: As It Happened

NBC Connecticut

James Vasquenza was working on the 24th floor of World Trade Center Tower 2 on September 11, 2001.

After the plane struck the tower, he and several of his co-workers were able to make it down the stairs to safety, thanks to a group of firefighters from Company 22 in New York City.

After walking for miles and finally getting a ride to a ferry, Vasquenza, an Avon native, was able to make it back to Connecticut, where he was met by his father. It was there that NBC Connecticut caught up with Vasquenza, as he gave his heart-wrenching account of what he witnessed inside Tower 2.

Last year, on the 10-year anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, Vasquenza sat down with NBC Connecticut's Amanda Raus to talk about that dark day. You can see that story here.
