One Dead After Serious Crash on Route 185 in Bloomfield

A 70-year-old Bloomfield man was killed in a five-car crash on Route 185 in Bloomfield Thursday night.

The five-vehicle crash happened near the intersection of Route 185 and Penwood Road around 7:20 p.m., according to police.

The 70-year-old Bloomfield man was driving a 2014 Hyundai and required CPR at the scene, police said. He was transported to St. Francis Hospital and he died when he arrived, according to police.

Two other drivers suffered injuries that were not life-threatening, according to police.

Based on preliminary information, police said they believe the driver of the Hyundai cross over the double yellow line on Simsbury Road and hit an oncoming vehicle, a 2008 Jeep Sahara head-on, then there were chain-reaction crashes involving the other three vehicles.
