Seven More Flu-Related Deaths Reported Over Last Week in Connecticut

Seven flu-related deaths have been reported in Connecticut in the last week, according to the Connecticut Department of Health.

So far this season, there have been 119 flu-related deaths in Connecticut, and seven of them are since last week’s report. State officials said Connecticut has passed the peak of the flu season.

Eighty-eight deaths have been attributed to influenza A and 30 have been attributed to influenza B, while one is one an unknown type.

Of the 119 deaths, 98 were among patients over the age of 65, 12 people were 50 to 64 years of age, five were 25 to 49 years of age, one was between 19 and 24 years of age and three were 18 years old or younger, according to the Department of Health.

“Connecticut has passed the peak of the flu season and our numbers are trending in the right direction. We still have a few more weeks of flu activity to get through, and people should continue to take precautions to avoid contracting or spreading the flu, but the worst of the season appears to be behind us,” Department of Public Health Commissioner Dr. Raul Pino said in a statement.

A total of 2,418 patients have been hospitalized with confirmed cases of flu between Aug. 27, 2017 and March 10, 2018 and 8,117 influenza positive laboratory tests have been reported during this season.
