Severe Thunderstorm Watch in Effect Statewide

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect statewide until 9 p.m.

Earlier storms took down trees and power lines in southern Middlesex County. The area of Chester, Killingworth, Deep River and Essex was most heavily hit.

According to Connecticut Light and Power, hundreds of customers in those areas are still without power. A CL&P representative said the company expects restorations to be complete by about 9 p.m.

Earlier today, the National Weather Service issued severe thunderstorm warnings for Litchfield County, Windham County and Middlesex County. All have since expired.
