Sex Offender Bonds Out After Approaching Teen

A registered sex offender is free on bond after allegedly trying to pick up a teenage girl at her bus stop in Bristol Thursday morning, police said.

Kenneth Stacey, 41, of Bristol, approached the 17-year-old girl on Stearns Street just after 7 a.m. and asked her if she wanted a ride, police said.  As she waited at the bus stop, he returned two more times in a black Jeep Cherokee, according to police.

The teen was visibly upset and the astute bus driver wrote down the registration number of the vehicle.

The car was registered to Stacey, who was identified as the driver, police said. Police investigated and determined he was the one who approached the girl.

Stacey was charged with second-degree breach of peace and first-degree stalking. He posted $100,000 bond and will be arraigned on Monday.  Stacey was convicted in 1989 for first-degree aggravated sexual assault.
