Sex Offender, Former Conn. Resident Stripped of Citizenship

A federal judge in Connecticut has stripped a Jamaica-born man of U.S. citizenship for misrepresenting his criminal history in his paperwork.

The U.S. Attorney's office said Monday that 44-year-old Rory Gayle said in 1999 he had never committed a crime for which he had not been arrested, but he later pleaded guilty to sexual assault of a minor for crimes committed between 1996 and 1999.

Gayle was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

A judge ordered his citizenship revoked in January. Prosecutors say Immigration and Customs Enforcement issued a detainer for Gayle, asking prison officials to hand him over for deportation when he is released.

Gayle came to the United States in 1979, when he was about 10 years old, and is a former resident of Windsor and West Hartford.
