Sex Offender Gets Life in Prison for New Britain Slaying

Leslie Williams, 35, had been released from prison only four weeks before the crimes.

A sex offender has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for killing a New Britain woman and shooting her friend in the head during a 2008 home invasion.

Police said Leslie Williams, 35, formerly of Waterbury, into the home of Carol Larese, 66, in New Britain on March 30, 2008, looking to steal money and a car. Authorities say Williams shot Larese in the head and killed her friend, Mary Ellen Welsh, 61.

Larese was in court on Wednesday.

"I've waited four years to look you (Williams) in the eye and ask you why?" she said. "(I) truly believe that you are Satan. ... I hope every day you watch your back living in fear that someone will kill you."

Williams was sentenced on Thursday at New Britain Superior Court. He avoided the possibility of the death penalty when he pleaded guilty in December to capital felony and other crimes.

Williams had been released from prison only four weeks before the crimes after serving eight years for sexually assaulting a 5-year-old girl.
