Shelton K9 Helps Capture Suspect

Shelton police are giving credit to a police dog for nabbing a robbery suspect.

On Sunday, Shelton Police detectives, assisted by Ansonia Police Detectives, arrested Slawomir Kret, 27, of 13 Nichols Street in Ansonia, after police said they learned Kret planned to rob a downtown pizza shop.

Police staked out the area around the pizza shop and observed Kret arrive with another man and park behind the pizza shop, waiting for the shop to close, according to a news release from police.

Detectives and a Canine Officer along with his dog Jager approached the vehicle and ordered the occupants out.

Kret did not comply with police orders, according to police, and retreated inside the van, and Jager subdued Kret inside the van.

Kret was taken into custody and arrested.

Police said they located masks, gloves, a hat and a tool handle weapon from inside the vehicle.  The other occupant was not arrested.

Kret was treated for his bite wounds at the hospital and released. He was held on a $75,000 bond and will be arraigned in Derby Superior Court on Tuesday.  The investigation is continuing.

Kret was charged with criminal attempt robbery in the first degree, conspiracy to commit robbery in the first degree and interfering with a police officer.
