The bullets have pierced homes and put homeowners on edge. About a dozen frustrated residents attended at Public Safety Committee meeting at the Durham Public Library Tuesday.
They want the town it hire its own ballistics experts after about a dozen bullets have been found in several homes in the area of Trimountain Road.
Some of the terrified homeowners pointed the finger at the Blue Trail Range in nearby Wallingford. State police investigated and determined the bullets "more likely than not" came from the range.
But the state couldn't say so definitely because the testing was able to match the recovered bullets with rifles found at the shooting range.
The residents asked for the town to hire a third party to do an independent investigation.
"The police are looking more toward a match as they would in a criminal investigation," Public Safety Committee Chairman Frank Defelice said. "The third party would look to find the source of the many bullets that are hitting trees and homes in the area."
The committee voted to recommend that the Board of Selectman hire a ballistics expert. The board will take up the issue at its next meeting in January.
