Sickness Sends at Least 10 UConn Students to the Hospital

UConn health officials have begun interviewing students affected by a flu-like illness on campus, hoping to pinpoint what led to the outbreak.

At least 10 UConn students have been treated over the last three days at nearby Windham Hospital for symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and weakness. Other patients have notified UConn Health Services of their illnesses.

An inspector from UConn's Environmental Health & Safety office has been interviewing the students to learn more about their recent health history and any connections they may have to one another.

Stephanie Reitz, a school spokeswoman, says there is no current evidence that the illness is food related. She says several of the students live in the Buckley residence hall and extra cleaning crews were brought in to scrub that dorm's common areas.
