Slump Hits Seniors Job Bank

The state’s only job bank for senior citizens might have to close by Christmas after running into financial problems.

There is never a good time for financial troubles, but this is a particularly bad time for the organization to find itself strapped in its ability to help people. Since January, need has tripled for help from the organization.

"People are coming in telling us they are homeless and they're desperate for any type of work. People really need to bridge that gap so we are really at wits end," Edward Dombroskas, the executive director of the job bank, said,

The job bank has been placing people 55 years or older since 1974. They charge no fee for placement services, so they depend on private donations and grants.

Donations and grants have dropped dramatically in the last two years. With the recession hitting, their investments took a big hit.

A decision on whether the job bank must close will be made in the next two weeks.
