Accidents Close Major Roads During November Snowstorm

Crashes have closed major roads in Connecticut as drivers navigate slippery roads Thursday.

Interstate west is closed in Southbury between exits 16 and 15 because of a disabled vehicle.

I-84 was also closed between exits 39 and 38 in Farmington after a truck crashed and several vehicles got stuck.

Sections of the highway in the Hartford area were backed up for miles as late as 9:30 p.m.

Drivers on I-691 also reported traffic jams that lasted hours after multiple spin-outs and stuck vehicles.

The northbound lanes of the Merritt Parkway were closed in Stamford because of deteriorating road conditions. Heavy snow is falling in Fairfield County.

The CT DOT has 634 plow trucks to manage 11,000 lane miles of state roads.

On the West Hartford Avon line, police shut down Route 44 on Avon Mountain after multiple vehicles got stuck. Drivers are advised to avoid the area.

NBC Connecticut crews reported multiple crashes as they drove down Route 34 in New Haven.

Wallingford police have responded to at least seven accidents since the snow began this afternoon, and report that roads are getting very slick in some areas.

Police urge drivers to stay off the road unless absolutely necessary.
