Sour Note for High School Band

What good is a percussion group without its cymbals?

That's what members of the Naugatuck High School marching band's percussion ensemble are asking, because someone stole the group's cymbals.

The theft was discovered just weeks before an important band competition in New Milford, the Waterbury-Republican reports.

The four cymbals worth about $1,400 were stolen from the band room sometime between 2 and 6 p.m on Feb. 2.

Playing a percussion routine that revolves heavily around cymbals without them is "like watching a movie without the soundtrack", senior group member Scott Dyer told the Waterbury Republican-American.

The band's conductor bought lower-quality cymbals to use in the meantime, but the band doesn't have the money to buy the more expensive ones to replace the stolen instruments, the newspaper reports. The band is looking for donations to buy the better quality cymbals for future performances.
