South Windsor Mayor Clears Up Confusion About Proposed Trash Program

The Town of South Windsor is trying to clear up some confusion involving a controversial trash collection idea.

On Sunday, the mayor sent a message to the community after hearing concerns about a program called “Pay as you Throw.”

The program would charge people for each trash bag they throw out.

The mayor said some people in town thought the proposal was going ahead.

“I wanted to clarify and help them understand, no, we are not making any changes at this time. But more importantly, I also wanted to share with the people that the cost of management of trash across the state is going up," said Mayor Saud Anwar.

The mayor is planning a public meeting about the issue possibly next month.

Town leaders are also looking to talk about possible solutions, including “Pay as you Throw” and other ways to reduce the amount of trash generated.
