Wild Ride: Police Stop Leads to Missing Girl, Assault Arrest

South Windsor police are dealing with a confusing case.  It started with a speeding car and led police to a missing girl who reported being abused by the man following her in another vehicle.

The incident started around 5 p.m. Thursday when police clocked a 22-year-old man for driving 70 mph in the school zone on Thursday on Nevers Road, near the high school, police said.

The officer pulled out to stop Michael Masser, of East Hartford, but Masser went through the stop sign and hit another car, police said.

The crash happened to have occurred right in front of the police station, so the two cars pulled into the lot. That is when the story got a little strange.

Behind them was a third car – driven by Michael Sierra, 32, of South Windsor. He is the boyfriend of the mother of the 15-year-old female passenger in Masser’s car, police said. The girl’s mother had reported her missing and the man said he was out looking for her.

Police later spoke with the girl, who told them that her mother’s boyfriend had assaulted her. She has a bruise under her eye, police said.

Police arrested Sierra and charged him with third-degree assault and risk of injury to a minor.

Masser was charged with reckless driving and risk of injury to a minor. He was released on a $5,000 surety bond and is scheduled to appear at Manchester Superior Court on Jan. 29.

Sierra was released on a $50,000.00 surety bond and is scheduled to appear at Manchester Superior Court on Friday.

No one was injured in the crash, but both vehicles were damaged and had to be towed from the scene.
