Shelton Car Wash Stabbing Suspect Found

Police are using dogs and a plane to search for the suspect.

Police have arrested a man accused of stabbing a 38-year-old car wash employee on Tuesday morning in Shelton.

Orlando Cruz, 23, of Bridgeport, went to Splash Car Wash at 376 Bridgeport Ave., at 8:15 a.m. to speak with his ex-girlfriend, who works there, police said.

A male employee intervened and Cruz stabbed him with a sharp object, police said.

Cruz ran off and police dogs and a plane were called in to search for him, according to State Police spokesperson, Lt. Paul Vance.

Around 10:30 a.m., employees from Satin America and United Recycling, on Oliver Terrace, called police and said they saw a person matching Cruz's description. Police confirmed Cruz's identity and arrested him.

The victim's injuries are not life-threatening and he might be returning to work on Tuesday, NBC Connecticut has learned.

The Valley Independent Sentinel reports that Cruz was wearing nothing but jeans and might have discarded a hat and sandals at the car wash.

Cruz was charged with assault in the second degree, reckless endangerment in the first degree, interfering with an officer and breach of peace second degree.

He is being held on a $100,000.00 bond and is scheduled to appear at Derby Court on July 20.

Police are still looking for the object used to stab the employee.
