State Drops Domestic Violence Charge Against Ayala

A domestic violence charge has been dropped against a Bridgeport state representative who was arrested weeks before taking office in January.

A state prosecutor told the Connecticut Post that a breach of peach charge against Rep. Christina Ayala, 29, was dropped on Wednesday because she completed counseling and complied with a protective order. Prosecutors said they handled the case like any other domestic violence incident.

The Democratic lawmaker and her boyfriend were arrested in December after an argument at their home.

Police said Ayala slapped the man in the face.

The arrests came four months after Ayala was charged in a hit-and-run minor car accident in Bridgeport, hours after winning the Democratic primary in her district. A court hearing in that case is set for Friday.

Ayala declined to comment yesterday, according to the Associated Press.
