Alleged Deadbeat Dad Shoots State Marshal: Cops

Marshal Was Serving Warrant When Shot

A state marshal is lucky to be alive after a man pulled a gun out from behind a child and shot twice Tuesday night, police said.

Arthur Quinn and Charles Valentino, who are both state marshals, went to a home on Indian Avenue in Bridgeport shortly after 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to police. They were there to take a man into custody on charges he owed back child support, the Connecticut Post reports.

Lonnie Anderson answered the door, with a young child standing in front of him, and the marshals explained why they were there, Valentino told the Post.

Then, the man pulled a gun out from behind the child and fired, police said.

One shot whizzed over Valentino’s ear and the marshals ran, Valentino told the Post, but Anderson continued to shoot – perhaps as many as 10 times.

Quinn was shot twice, witnesses said. One shot hit his arm. Another hit his foot.
Denisse Colon, a witness, said she couldn't believe what was happening. She saw somebody on the ground and said to her daughter," Oh my God, they shot somebody."

Anderson has been charged with attempted murder, first-degree assault on a police officer, reckless endangerment, risk of injury to a minor and criminal mischief.

Quinn was treated at St. Vincent's Medical Center last night for gunshot wounds. Valentino was not injured.
