Sitting State Representative Has Died

State Representative Faith McMahon died Tuesday at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, after a battle with cancer.

The announcement of her death came on Tuesday from House Speaker Chris Donovan during a committee hearing.  Gov. M. Jodi Rell has ordered all state flags lowered to half staff in honor of McMahon.

Faith McMahon, 65,  was a three-term representative from Bloomfield.  She was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2003 and represented the 15th Assembly District, which includes Bloomfield and Windsor.

"Faith lived to serve her community and her state, and she did so with passion and diligence," said Gov. Rell in a statement Tuesday afternoon.  "We will all miss her here at the State Capitol.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of her family and friends."

Before serving as a Representative, McMahon was the first female mayor of Bloomfield, a position she held for 10 years.  McMahon enjoyed a 35-year career as an elementary teacher in the Windsor School System and served on Bloomfield's Town Council for 15 years.
