State Rep. to Attend Military Courses

State Rep. Christopher Coutu will be taking a an officer qualification course.

A state representative will be leaving the state for three months to complete a military officer branch qualification course.

State Rep. Christopher Coutu serves as a second lieutenant in the Army National Guard and said he will be leaving Connecticut from February through April.

The original release said he will be going on active duty, but the office sent out another release saying Coutu would be participating in mandatory training in South Carolina.

“Over the last 17 years, since I turned 18, it has been an honor to serve in the United States Air Force and Army. Aside from starting a family, this has been the most rewarding experience of my life. But in order to continue my military service, I must fulfill the obligations that I signed up for. Right now, that means completing mandatory two month training,” he said in a news release.

Coutu represents Canterbury, Norwich, Scotland and Sprague and said constituent services will not be disrupted and his staff and colleagues in the legislature will respond to constituent service issues in his district.

Coutu served as a sergeant in the Air Force for 13 years, then entered Officer Candidate School to be commissioned as an Army officer.
