89-Year-Old Driver Hits DMV Inspector's Car in Glastonbury: Police

Two drivers were taken to the hospital to be evaluated after an 89-year-old man struck a DMV inspector’s vehicle on Route 3 in Glastonbury early Thursday morning, according to state police.

State police said the DMV inspector’s vehicle was parked on the shoulder of Route 3 South between the Main Street on- and off-ramps when the driver of a Mazda struck him around 6:10 a.m.

Police said the driver of the Mazda, an 89-year-old East Hampton man, drifted into the shoulder of the road and hit the other car.

Both drivers complained of pain and were taken to the hospital to be evaluated.

The vehicles were towed and the Mazda driver was cited for failure to maintain proper lane.

Editor's Note: Police originally said a state trooper's vehicle was involved in the crash, but later said a state trooper was not involved.
