State to Revise Sex Abuse Reporting Laws

Public school coaches are required to report any abuse they witness or suspect.

In the wake of the child sex abuse scandal at Penn State University, UConn plans to revise its own policies for reporting sexual abuse.

A hearing is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford involving the chairs of the Select Committee on Children and the Judiciary Committee.

The university will decide who should be included in the state's mandated reporting statutes and what the penalty should be.

Already in Connecticut, public school coaches are required to report any abuse they witness or suspect.

The hearing is meant to gather information on mandated child abuse reporting which would be considered during the upcoming session of the General Assembly.
