Steelers Pick Up Local Free Agents

Two Connecticut college players sign with Pittsburgh Steelers

NFL Draft weekend is a time of hope and celebration for hundreds of college football athletes.

But what happens if your name isn't Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin III or Kendall Reyes, and your name isn't called at Radio City Music Hall?

For a lucky few players, the NFL dream doesn't die when the draft is over.

Right after the last pick is made, all the players left on the board become unrestricted free agents and teams quickly swoop in to pick them up.  And for two players from Connecticut, the Pittsburgh Steelers that came calling.

Ikponmwosa Igbinosun, a 6-5 Defensive Lineman from Southern Connecticut State University and Jake Stoller, 6-3 Defensive end from Yale are among the 12 undrafted rookies who will head to Steeler camp starting on Friday.

Both have a chance to compete to make the vaunted Steeler defense, but they will have lots of work to do if they want to wear the black and gold on Sundays.
