Alleged Diamond Thief Nabbed at Bradley

Mass. man is accused of stealing ring from West Hartford store.

A Massachusetts man was arrested for having quite a gem.

West Hartford police picked up Robert Hatcher, 46, of Springfield, on Saturday at Bradley International Airport on a warrant charging him with stealing a diamond ring worth $13,000.

According to police, Hatcher snatched the diamond from Lunden Diamond Company on LaSalle Road in West Hartford Center in November.

Hatcher was also wanted on a warrant for an alleged robbery in Vermont, and Massachusetts authorities were looking for him on escape charges, according to police.

It's apparently not his first arrest for stealing jewelry either. In 2004, Hatcher was arrested in North Adams, Mass. after allegedly attempting to steal $25,000 in gold and diamond rings from a jewelry store there, according to WNAW radio.

He has been charged with second-degree larceny for the West Hartford robbery.  Hatcher is being held on $60,000 bond and is due back in court on March 10.
