House Passes Stricter Gun Law

In the wake of a young boy's death, Connecticut is one step closer to stricter gun laws.

The bill that passed the state House Thursday would ban anyone under the age of 16 from handling automatic machine guns, including for target practice.

The House bill passed the bill 139-0 and the Senate already passed it. Now it awaits Gov. M. Jodi Rell’s signature.

The legislation is in response to the death of Christopher Bizilj, 8, of Ashford who accidentally killed himself with an Uzi at a Massachusetts gun show in October.

Supporters of the bill, including some gun rights advocates, said they hope the bill will prevent future tragedies.

Three men, including a Massachusetts police chief whose business promoted the gun show, and two men who brought the Uzi, have been charged in Massachusetts with involuntary manslaughter.
