Connecticut Has One of the Highest Tax Burdens: WalletHub

If you think taxes are high in Connecticut, the statistics back you up.

Connecticut has the sixth highest overall tax burden in the United States, according to a recently released report from WalletHub. 

WalletHub's calculations are based on three types of taxes and the share of personal income that goes to cover them. What they found was the overall tax burden in Connecticut is 10.19 percent.

New York has the highest tax burden, followed by Hawaii, Maine, Vermont and Minnesota.

Connecticut comes in 7th for property tax burden, at 4.17 percent. That is determined by the average percentage of personal income. New Hampshire has the highest percent.

Connecticut is also 7th for individual income tax burden at 3.34 percent.

Connecticut residents do get a break when it comes to total sales and excise tax burden. We come in 42nd for that category.

The rates are highest in Hawaii.
